Bid Increments
The standardized amount an item increases in price after each new bid. Biker Bids sets the increment, which rises according to the present high bid value of an item.

Bid Retraction
Bid retractions or cancellations are permitted only under extraordinary circumstances. Once your bid is placed, you have an obligation to complete the transaction if you win. Keep your User name and password confidential, so that other users cannot access your account. If you believe you have an extraordinary situation (for example, you typed an extra digit and bid 1000 instead of 100), please contact customer support.

Bid Shielding
Posting extremely high bids to protect the lower bid of an earlier bidder, usually in association with the bidder who placed the shielding bid. Because Biker Bids bidders cannot automatically retract their maximum bids, Biker Bids auctions are not subject to this kind of auction fraud.

Bulk Lister
The Bulk Loader is a tool that allows you to load a batch of auctions all at once. Instead of submitting individual auctions one by one, you can submit all of your auctions in CSV file format and send that information directly to us. The Bulk Loader then uploads multiple auctions, saving you valuable time and effort.

Buy Out
Buy Out or Fixed Price Sale listings have a fixed price set by the seller and buyers simply choose to buy the item at that price.

Buying Up Lots

Listings Pages
The seller's "listings page" is a publicly accessible page where all of the seller's current auctions are listed.

Lowballer
This is the worst kind of bidder - especially for sellers. They are the ones looking for the super-bargain (which no longer exisits in today's on-line auction environment). Lowballers only bid one or two times (though nibblers can be considered a varient of lowballer), and will bid only the lowest amount necessary to become the high bidder in an auction. When they loose, especially to a Sniper, they whine and complain on message board forums about the unfairness of life. A lowballer will never win an auction unless they are the sole bidder for the item.

Maximum Bid
Maximum Bid is Biker Bids proxy bidding system. Biker Bids will bid at the lowest possible increments on your behalf until your maximum bid (the most you are willing to pay) is reached.

Members Area
Whether you are a buyer or seller, your Members Area is a unique and efficient focal point for all your Biker Bids activity.

New Listing Icon
A New Listing icon (Yellow Sun) indicates an item posted within the past 48 hours. New listings can be found grouped together as a link from the homepage.

Nibbler
The nibbler is someone who only bids the minimum amount necessary to place a valid bid, and does so several times in a row until they become high bidder, or the current bid amount is more than they are willing to pay for the item. People new to on-line auction bidding generally use this method because they do not understand proxy bidding and think that whatever amount they enter will be the amount they will have to pay for the item. There is no advantage to Nibbling as anyone who places a proper proxy bid or a snipe will end up beating a nibbler's bid 99.99% of the time. This is way Sniping has become so popular - by placing your bid at the very last moment, nibblers cannot run up your bid amount, and if you see an auction has a nibbler as the high bidder, you can be fairly certain that their max bid amount is not more than a few dollars higher than the current required minimum bid, so don't have to break the bank in order to beat them.

Opening Amount or Price
The opening bid price sellers set for their auctions

Opening Bid
The mandatory starting bid for a given auction, set by the seller at the time of listing. An opening bid should be either the maximum you would be willing to pay for that item or the opening amount plus the increment shown on the item page

Outbid
To submit a maximum bid that is higher than another buyer's maximum bid. You will be notified by Biker Bids if your maximum bid has been outbid.

Photo Upload
Photo Upload is a feature for adding photos to your auctions using the Biker Bids Auctions submission process. IDV Members can upload as many as 10 photos. Trial Members can only upload 1 photo to their listing.

Proxy Bid
This is the type of bid you can place on an active auction at any time during its run. A proxy bid is placed by bidding a fixed amount for the item you are interested in. The auction server will then determine how much of that amount is needed in order for you to be the high bidder for the auction, using all other bidder's proxy amounts and the bid increment. The server will then raise the amount of the bid (up to, but not exceding your initial amount) as needed for you to remain the high bidder. The total amount of a proxy bid is known only to the person who places it - the seller and other bidders have no way of knowing what your maximum bid amount it unless an amount that is higher is placed. A proxy bid has the advantage of not requiring you to be on-line at the time the auction ends.

Register
In order to place a bid or sell an item you need to register on Biker Bids. Registration is free and it is required. This helps provide all participants with a safer environment to buy and sell. Your registration information is private. You can find out more about how Biker Bids handles your personal information by reading our Privacy Policy page.

Reserve Price
A "reserve" is a price that must be met by a bidder before the item can be sold. It is usually higher than the starting bid price, and not revealed to bidders.

Reserve Price Auction
In a Reserve Price Auction, the seller has the option of setting a Reserve Price, below which the listing will not sell. The Reserve Price is higher than the Opening Bid amount. If the seller has set a Reserve Price you will see either "reserve not met" or "reserve met" depending on whether the current bid price is above or below this.

S&H Charges
Shipping and handling charges relating to the sale of an item.

Secure Server (SSL)
Transactions on this site requires you to enter a username and password or other sensitive account information. We ask that you enter these numbers via our secure server. This server uses Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, the industry standard in Web security used primarily for transmitting sensitive information over the Internet. If you are using an older AOL or other non-standard browser, it may not support an SSL connection. You may also have difficulty if you are attempting to access the site from behind a firewall or server. In either of these cases, you will have to submit your credit information using the link provided to our non-secure server.

Snipe Bid
A Snipe is the type of bid that is placed during the final seconds of an auction. Similar to a proxy bid, the snipe bid has the advantage (if well timed) of not allowing anyone the chance to place a bid after it. People who use this bid method are referred to as Snipers, and often use a special software program that will place the bid for them, so they need not be on-line at the time the auction ends. The Snipe also allows you to avoid the dreaded "Nibbler".

Standard Auction
Buyers bid until the auction ends. The item is then sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction period.

Starting Price
The starting price or opening bid price the sellers set for their auctions

Terms and Conditions
A legally binding agreement that outlines Biker Bids operating policies. All registered Biker Bids members must agree to abide by these terms and conditions when using our services.

Trial Members
You do not have to be IDV Member in order to buy on Biker Bids, but doing so makes you a more appealing buyer. Sellers have an option of disallowing Trial Members from bidding on their auctions. Trial sellers are limited to listing 5 items and have several major listing features disabled. This is our "Try before you buy" account.

URL
A Uniform Resource Locator is a way of specifying a resource, i.e., an Internet address. Every electronic document that is accessible via the Internet has a unique URL. A URL consists of a protocol name, a colon (:), two forward slashes (//), a domain name, and a path to a resource (using / as a separator). For example, the Biker Bids home page might be found at the URL http://www.bikerbids.com/.

Virus
A program which replicates itself on computer systems by incorporating itself into other programs that are shared among computer systems.
